Oppo released their second A-series phone of 2022 today. The new Oppo A36 is built on a similar design language as the Oppo A96 that dropped last week. But it’s a cheaper entry-level 4G Android, rocking Qualcomm silicon.
First off, the Oppo A36 features the familiar design that Oppo introduced with the Reno 7 series. We’re looking at the signature ‘Reno Glow’ finish which makes the shell grainy and reflective. You can pick from Cloudy Black and Blue shades.
The edges on the frame are soft and curved, the power button etched into the chassis doubles as the thumbprint reader, and a dual-camera rests inside a raised rectangle. Oppo A36 has a 13MP wide-angle + 2MP portrait lens duo on the back and an 8MP front camera.
Turn the phone over to reveal its 6.56” LCD with a hole punched through the corner. Oppo A36 features an unremarkable 720P resolution (which has become almost obsolete, even in modern budget phones.) The brightness peaks at 600 nits, and the pixel density sits at 269 PPI at a mid-range oppo mobile price.
The battery powering everything is a decent-sized 5000 mAh cell. But it lacks any support for quick-charging because the power is capped at 10W. Hooked up to this battery is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680. It’s a recently-announced 6nm chip.
Oppo rounds it off with 8GB of memory and 256GB of expandable internal storage. The Oppo A36 is shipped with the ColorOS 11 x Android 11 (already a generation old.) The phone starts from CNY 1,599 (~ Rs. 44,000.) At the time of this writing, it’s unclear if Oppo plans on selling it outside of China.
