Following weeks of leaks and rumors, the Oppo A12 is now official. Part of the ongoing slew of new Oppo devices, this budget-minded model, has been introduced in the Indonesian market, starting at an affordable Oppo price of IDR 2,499,000 (~26,000 PKR). However, its global release plans remain a mystery.

As you’d expect from an entry-level device, the Oppo A12 has a polycarbonate frame and rear-facing panel. The latter features a fractal design, in an almost 3D diamond-like pattern, that comes in Black and Blue shades. In the middle of the build, you’ll find a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. And in the corner rests a horizontally-arranged twin camera setup.

When you flip it over, you’re greeted by a 6.22-inch LCD display, with a drop-notch extending into it. The screen delivers a 19:9 aspect ratio, an 89% screen-to-body ratio, and an HD+ resolution. The light bezels are pretty uncharacteristic for an entry-level build.

Oppo has layered the front panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection. The design isn’t just light on the bezels; it’s also light on the build, weighing in at just 165g.

The dual rear camera features a 13MP primary lens and a 2MP depth-assist sensor. Aside from the hardware level bokeh, the ensemble uses AI engines to produce better shots. For snapping selfies, Oppo gives you a 5MP selfie shooter.

The A12 runs on a MediaTek P35, combined with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB storage options — expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card. A 4,230 mAh battery powers the chip, but it lacks any support for fast charging. But considering how Oppo prices it to be an affordable option it may still do the job well.

A previous-gen Android-9-based ColorOS 6.1.2 powers the internals. In a similar vein, the phone can be recharged with a now-dated MicroUSB port. Does Oppo A12 feel out of place in 2020?
