Honor X9d is the fourth installment in this ongoing series. The phone landed in Malaysia today with a rugged design and one of the biggest batteries we have ever seen on a handset. Honor X9d is still a midrange phone by specs, so the price is quite affordable.

This newcomer’s specialty is an IP69K safety rating and an extremely durable construction. It will survive at a depth of 6 meters in water. The phone will resist high-pressure, high-temperature water jets from all angles and even survive fall damage from up to 2.5 meters of height.

Honor gave this device one of the newer Qualcomm processors, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 with a 2.3GHz CPU. This is an eight-core 4nm platform, by the way, that integrates an Adreno 810 GPU onboard for hardware-accelerated graphics. The X9d’s Android 15 x Magic OS 9 software will easily run on this chipset.

The Honor new 5G mobile has 12GB RAM, so multitasking should be a breeze. That’s tied with either 256GB or 512GB of built-in storage. Then comes the front panel. Honor slapped a huge 6.79” AMOLED screen on the X9d that has 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The bezels around this display are uniform and slim, and the panel underneath can hit 6000nits peak brightness.

The X9 devices all have these circular dials on the back with cameras placed on the circumference. The X9d has the same look, with a 108MP Main camera and a 5MP ultrawide secondary unit. Honor gave it a single front camera this time, with a 16MP punch-hole selfie, instead of the pill cutout.

The Honor X9d measures only 7.76mm thin yet somehow carries an 8300mAh power pack. This is truly a two-day phone. It may have used the Si/C formula, helping with its size and weight. The newcomer’s Reddish Brown color has gold accents and an Honor badge, but the rest of its colors look ordinary.

The upgraded chip on this handset allows a faster WiFi 6 protocol and Bluetooth 5.2 support. Honor X9d also has dual speakers for a loud stereo output. It’s currently under pre-orders in Malaysia with 12/256GB and 12/512GB memory trims, and their respective prices are ~$355 (~PKR 100,000) and ~$402 (~PKR 113,000).
