Today was Honor Robot Phone’s official launch in China. The prototype of this handset was teased months ago, and we’ve been seeing its demos and teasers since then. Safe to say, we’ve been excited to meet this newcomer. This is everything we learned about the Honor Robot Phone today.
Well, they didn’t hide its pricing details or any of its specs at launch, so we have pretty much everything on the Honor Robot Phone. This newcomer is known only for its gimbal camera setup, of course. The cinema camera company ARRI teamed up with Honor to put together this beautiful miniature camera rig.
What you have here is the world’s smallest titanium gimbal that’s almost 35% the size of a DJI Osmo Pocket camera. They have over 100 precision components on the 4DoF stabilizer and 100 patents to go with it. The motor that pulls the gimbal out of the rear housing is a 2.6g titanium servo.
The camera they’ve put on the gimbal is actually a 1/1.28” 200MP sensor that has a big f/1.6 lens opening. It’s the first with Log-C3 video encoding as well as LUT color grading, which can be done natively on the Honor latest new model, by the way. This can only be accessed in the cinema mode, which has the look and feel of ARRI cameras.
It’s not the only camera, of course. 200MP periscope 2.7X telephoto lens is also in the vicinity. It’s not on a gimbal, but there is OIS. And then comes the rear AF 50MP ultrawide sensor (also supports macro mode). It may be a small phone, but the whole camera assembly made the Robot Phone heavy at 248g and 9.6mm thick.
It’s a flagship phone in every way. This handset is built around a 1-120Hz LTPO OLED that only has a 6.3” size. There’s 1.5K resolution and very thin bezels. 6800nits is the peak brightness, but it’s a little more effective due to its AR anti-reflective coating.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the chip you’ll see inside the Robot Phone with 1TB storage and up to 16GB RAM. Most of the space is taken by the camera island, but they still managed to cram in a 7,060mAh Si/C cell on the device. There’s 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. 12/512GB is the base trim, which starts at a brutal CNY 9,999 (~PKR 412,000) price tag.
