A gimbal camera on a smartphone; that’s basically what the Honor Robot Phone is. The company has been working on this handset since 2025. The phone was demoed at CES 2026. Some rumors suggested that it would hit the consumer market in the 3rd quarter this year. The claims were absolutely true.

The timeframe for the Robot phone has been announced. And it’s exactly when the rumor mill pegged it would be. The device will debut in Q3. That means it’s sometime between July and September. Robot Phone was considered a prototype in the demo stages. But there’s still hope for a consumer launch.

The Cannes China Night event saw another demonstration of this Honor flagship new model today. The preview has come with a launch window this time, which is why everyone’s talking about this handset again. Honor shook hands with ARRI to build the 4DoF gimbal system for the Robot phone.

The concept isn’t hard to follow. It’s a lens on a gimbal support that flips out of the camera island on the back. And you can use it as the main sensor or as a selfie shooter. But you have to slide the protective door first to access the gimbal camera, which makes it a bit inconvenient.

The Robot title is the gimbal mechanism itself. It’s a 3-axis stabilization system. It feels the same as the DJI Osmo Pocket. The range of motion is good enough for smooth motion tracking of objects. And you add true hardware stabilization to the videos.

Honor isn’t ready to share the specifics yet. Obviously, they want to maintain as much intrigue as they can. And pulling off the curtains won’t help. What the demos showed us is that the 4DoF gimbal camera can be used when the phone is held upright or put on a flat surface.

The Honor Robot phone does have two other cameras that are meant for normal use, as you would on an ordinary handset. But they’ve obscured most of its technical details from the news media. We’ll let you know if they slip out any other information. Keep watching the news for updates.
