The Z Fold lineup showed up with two devices instead of one in yesterday’s Galaxy Unpacked. The simpler Galaxy Z Fold 8 is wider but more compact, and then you have the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which keeps the original proportions and a near 1:1 aspect ratio. Watching landscape videos on older Z Folds never felt right because of the boxy aspect ratio. That held many customers back from buying these foldables. Well, the Z Fold 8 goes wide, and it has a 4:3 aspect ratio that makes more sense, akin to many iPads. The outer screen is 5.5” (10:16 aspect).
Yes, the outer screen is also wide. This kills two birds with one stone: you don’t have to deal with a narrow keyboard anymore. And the thumb will reach all the way to the top with one hand. The inner screen is 7.6” (4:3) aspect ratio. That’s perfect because the photos from the camera usually fit that size.
The screens are LTPO OLEDs again, 1-120Hz with 2k resolution for both sides, but the brightness is bumped to 3000nits. There’s even a minor antireflective coating on these displays, so the glare isn’t as aggressive. Yes, there’s still a crease, but it barely shows up during normal usage.
They’ve also put a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 on it, exactly as expected, with its “For Galaxy” version that’s overclocked to 4.74GHz. The least RAM on this Z Fold 8 is 12GB, which can be upgraded to 16GB if the 1TB storage option is picked. The battery size has gone up on each Fold sibling.
4400mAh on the Z Fold 7 gets upgraded to 4800mAh on the basic Z Fold 8. And a bigger battery means more endurance. There’s 45W charging support (refill 63% in 30 minutes), and the wireless charging coil can do 20W wireless charging as well.
There are only two cameras on the back. They are 50MP each, but neither is a telephoto. Z Fold 8 is stuck with an Ultrawide 50MP and a main 50MP camera. Both screens have their own 10MP selfie shooters. This newcomer is unlocked for pre-orders. The official base price seems to be £1,699 (~PKR 631,000).

It’s the big brother to Z Fold 8. Ultra name comes with one extra camera and a taller aspect ratio with a bigger cover screen. And yes, there’s a bigger battery as well. By the way, this is the true successor to Galaxy Z Fold 7. They’ve put a 200MP main OIS camera on the back.
There’s a 50MP Ultrawide camera among those lenses, and a 10MP 3X telephoto can also be found on the back. The screens each have a 10MP selfie snapper. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has an FHD+ 6.5” OLED cover and an 8” 2K inner folding screen. They are both LTPO 1-120Hz 3000nits panels.
This newcomer has the same For Galaxy variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It’s overclocked. 12GB is the base RAM, or 16GB with the upgraded 512GB or 1TB storage. This is the first model in years with a Si/C battery, and that’s how they’ve made it even slimmer than before.
The whole phone is now 8.9mm thick folded (4.1mm unfolded). The battery has gone up by 14%. 5000mAh cell is being used on the Fold 8 Ultra. 45W charging is there, and so is the wireless 20W input. The folding display seems stronger now because of the Flex titanium film and plate.
The phone got an IP48 rating, so it’s somewhat dustproof now, but the finer sand grains might still get in. Android 17 One UI 9 is something both phones share. Each has WiFi 7 and a titanium chassis. They have side fingerprints and UWB as well. Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is also open for pre-order, though its base price is much steeper at £1,899 (~PKR 706,000).
