Xiaomi had the guts to release its first wide foldable right at the heels of the iPhone Ultra launch. Their new Xiaomi 18 Fold has the same form factor and the design predicted for the first foldable iPhone, especially the rounded corners, and they are flaunting this device right in Apple’s face. This is everything we know about the Xiaomi 18 Fold.
They’ve probably abandoned the Xiaomi Mix lineup. This is the first foldable they’ve built around an XRING O3 chip. That is their self-made decacore SoC, which supports the world’s first LPDDR6 memory if you get the 16GB version. All other trims are LPDDR5X.
Of course, this is also the first time they’ve put rounded corners on the frame and made the chassis wider on their foldable. Apparently, the folding screen is smaller now at 7.58 inches, and the resolution is ~2K or 2364x1672px. The cover panel is ~1.5K and 5.38” with 1168x1712 resolution.
Each screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and 4000nits brightness. The crease is close to invisible. The size is a big advantage. Xiaomi new Fold mobile held horizontally in folded or unfolded state actually gives you the exact same 2:1 aspect ratio. The outer screen has extra protection with Shield Glass 3.
They’ve put a 200MP main camera on the back, which is right next to a 50MP periscope telephoto at 3.5x zoom (7x with lossless zoom). Then there’s the Ultrawide 50MP camera in the third silo. The selfie cameras on both sides are 16MP, by the way.
Battery’s always a point of contention for the fans. Xiaomi 18 Fold actually has an adequate cell size of 6000mAh, which has 20% Si/C content. There’s 67W charging (wired) and 50W input (wireless). The frame is very clearly metal, and the primary color is cherry red.
Xiaomi 18 Fold is built around Android 17, by the way. There’s Hyper OS 4. The speakers have Dolby Atmos tuning, and we have a side fingerprint reader on the 18 Fold. The frame isn’t quite as thin as Samsung’s Z Fold 8, but it’s definitely at the sweet spot at 5.02 mm (unfolded) and 10.68mm (folded). The base MSRP is CNY 10,999 (~PKR 454,000).
