It’s not exactly a mid-year refresh of the original series. That usually ends with a “T”. But Xiaomi 17 Max could be under development as the lineup’s fifth device. There’s a new leak that opens discussion about this handset once again after someone shared its potential launch timeline in January. This is what we found on the leaker’s tweet.
Apparently, this Xiaomi 17 Max is due sometime in May. Only the window was tipped by the leaker, Kartikay Singh. No one knows the exact date. They intend to release this newcomer in China. And it could either stay there indefinitely or reach the global market later.
It’s a flagship phone, no doubt. The source had a few key specs to share, and they look pretty close to the original Xiaomi Max new mobile. There’s a big 6.9” OLED screen here. The refresh rate is supposed to be 120Hz. Maybe the vanilla Max also matches the Pro Max’s LTPO and 1.5K resolution.
Anyway, the chipset here could be a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. That’s a 4.6 GHz big Oryon core SoC. And there’s an Adreno 840 GPU inside it, which is the world’s fastest gaming platform for Android. It’s definitely at the bleeding edge.
The original Pro Max had a 7,500 mAh battery. But the Xiaomi 17 Max will probably bump that up to 8,000 mAh. That will add a few hours of screen time. Though Xiaomi isn’t exactly known for optimizing the battery in the same way Samsung does. It will also keep 100W wired charging and 50W wireless input from the original.
It seems the whole point of this phone’s introduction is the 200MP main camera that the other models didn’t have. None of the other devices besides the 17 Ultra had a 200MP sensor. That tells us more about the position of Xiaomi 17 Max.
The back has more than one camera, of course. A 50MP Ultrawide is there. And a 50MP Periscope telephoto shooter lies right next to it. They’ll string together all the hardware with Android 16 Hyper OS 3. We’ll share the exact launch date when we find it. Keep watching the news until then.
