Vivo is launching a new phone in China, and it might be released in other countries later on. The phone’s name is “Vivo Y50 5G.” We found this newcomer under the model number V2443A on the China Telecom certification. Curiously, alongside the original listing, “V2443BA” was another model titled Vivo Y50m 5G.
They both have nearly identical specs, which means the separation has something to do with different storage options or the markets they intend to serve. At any rate, China Telecom was pretty thorough with the specs and pricing of the Vivo Y50 5G. We even found some images that reveal its design, so here’s a peek.
Apparently, the phone has a 6.74” IPS LCD with only a 720p resolution. And we are sure you can already guess the chipset on this entry-level 5G device. That’s right! This phone is also built around a Dimensity 6300, like so many others before it. It’s a formula we’ve seen over and over again in the past year and a half.
As always, in pursuit of making a budget 5G device around a D6300 SoC, Vivo has to cheap out on other specs, like the camera or display. The latest Vivo Y model’s image quality will suffer. It only uses a 5MP selfie camera and a 13MP rear shooter to take photos.
China Telecom has also confirmed that the phone will bring 12GB Max RAM and 256GB storage, and a lot of variety when it comes to memory trims. We’ll talk about those at the end. It also supports an SD card slot, so you always have backup if you run out of storage.
Now, the phone has also passed China’s 3C certification, and that tells us it brings 44W fast charging. We’ve heard the newcomer is also packing a 6000mAh battery, so it will need those speedy refills to stay ahead of the curve.
About the pricing, China Telecom says that Vivo Y50 5G’s starter variant costs 1,299 Yuan (~PKR 51,000). The phone is already looking pretty steep, considering the starting option only has 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. There will be other options in 6/128GB, 8/256GB, and 12/256GB configs. The specs you read here can also be found on the Vivo Y50m 5G. On July 18, one of those devices is reported to debut in China, so stay tuned for a full review.
