In late June this year, Vivo refreshed its entry-level Vivo Y12s and introduced it as Vivo Y12A in several Asian markets. This new Y12A, featuring Qualcomm silicon and the latest Vivo OS, has now landed in Pakistan. Vivo has yet to make it official with an announcement, but the phone is already being rolled out to stores nationwide, sources told WhatMobile.
Since Vivo Y12A is a Y12 series clone, it has the same build but mildly different internal specifications. For starters, the Y12A uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 (which came out in 2018) instead of the MediaTek Helio P35. However, the performance from both platforms is comparable with the Snapdragon chip offering slightly better graphics.
While the Vivo Y12s runs on the old-gen Android10, the Y12A boots to the FunTouchOS 11, built on Android11, out of the box. The rest of the features fall behind the competitiveness of new phones from more value-friendly Chinese brands.
Naturally, the Vivo Y12A lacks any fast-charging support, but the power is delivered over a phased-out MicroUSB port. You get 3GB of memory and only 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD.) The build is backed by a 5000 mAh battery. Vivo promises full-day battery life out of a single charge. Overall a refresher to the Vivo price list.
The shell has squared-off corners and chamfered edges, available in the iridescent Glacier Blue and the muted-but-elegant Phantom Black editions. Vivo Y12A houses its cameras in a rectangular strip, and its fingerprint scanner is merged with the power button. We’re looking at a dual rear camera made of 13MP wide and 2MP bokeh lenses and a single front camera with an 8MP sensor behind it.
Flip the Vivo Y12A over to find a notched screen. It’s a generic 6.51” IPS LCD with a 720P resolution and a noticeable chin. Vivo puts its starting price at Rs. 21,999, the same as the Y12S.
