Just like the Infinix Note 60 Ultra, Tecno has its own offering in the same category. They are calling it the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra 5G. The phone has a midrange SoC and a decent battery, though a big chunk of the R&D went into the camera setup. This is everything we know about the Camon 50 Ultra.

Tecno slapped a curved AMOLED screen at the front with very minimal bezels and a punch hole. That’s a 6.78” panel at a 144Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution. The Camon 50 Ultra also has something called ProXDR Eye-care. It should reduce eye strain during long sessions.

Dimensity 7400 Ultimate is the engine that runs everything on the Tecno latest Camon model. It’s a 4nm processor with eight cores. And the clock speed hits 2.6GHz. That’s more than enough juice to handle the newcomer’s HiOS 16 firmware, which, by the way, is promised 3 major OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

Tecno went all out on the Camon 50 Ultra’s durability. Apparently, the rating goes all the way up to IP69K, so not only is it safe to dunk the phone in water, but it can even handle pressured, high-temperature water jets. They’ve also got MIL-STD-810 military certification for it.

The first camera on the back is actually a 50MP Sony LYT 700C outsole with OIS. That’s a 1/1.56” sensor, which is meant for enhanced low-light photos and videos. There’s another camera here with 50MP resolution and a 3x optical zoom. It’s a telephoto lens best suited for portraits and zoom photos.

The third camera is actually an Ultrawide 8MP shooter. What makes the setup special is not the hardware, but the software on the Camon 50 Ultra. They have an entire AI package dedicated to the cameras. AI 60x SuperZoom, Super-Zoom FlashSnap, Live Photos, and even an underwater photography mode are part of this suite.

The design’s quite thin at 7.4mm, though the Camon 50 Ultra is still outfitted with a huge 6,500 mAh cell in a very limited space. The charging speed is only 45W, which is not exactly an Ultra feature, but serviceable. There are two speakers here and an IR blaster.

The selfie camera on the screen is 50MP, and the bottom section has an optical fingerprint ID. By the way, this newcomer also has WiFi 6 and an NFC chip built in. Tecno even gives the Ultra buyers 50GB of cloud storage for free. The Camon 50 Ultra’s cost should be right under $600, though the exact figure hasn’t been confirmed yet.
