Samsung is gearing up to launch its latest lineup of folding-screen smartphones in the latter half of the year. Recent reports from Korean media outlets, The Elec and Jiji Weekly e, have shed light on the anticipated features and release timeline for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6.

According to The Elec, suppliers of Samsung Electronics are slated to commence production of parts for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 in early May, indicating a timeline 2 to 3 weeks ahead of last year's model. With production kicking off earlier, Samsung might host its launch event by the end of July, preceding the Galaxy Fold 5’s August 11 release date last year.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE, as suggested by Jiji Weekly e, is expected to offer a slightly scaled-down version compared to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 5. The Fold 6 FE might feature similar camera specifications as the standard version but with compromises in processor, screen quality, and battery capacity.

Additionally, some experts reported that the Fold 6 FE lacks stylus support, features a thinner body design, and reduces weight. Samsung's upcoming foldable phone is slated for release between September and October, about a quarter later than the standard version, and strategically aligned with the launch of the Apple iPhone 16 to divert consumer attention.

However, forecasts from The Elec estimate modest shipments of 200,000 to 300,000 units for the Fold 6 FE. Furthermore, reports indicate that the Fold 6 FE will hit the market with a price tag of $800, making it a more budget-friendly alternative.

The move seems strategic as Samsung faces stiff competition in the folding screen phone market, with predictions from DSCC suggesting Huawei will surpass Samsung in sales for the first quarter. Expanding the folding screen product line will be the maneuver from Samsung to maintain market share amidst mounting challenges.
