Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Unfolds to a Bigger Cover Display; Access Apps on Outer Screen

When flipped out, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 plans to steal the spotlight with its inspired cover display. Say goodbye to the tiny 1.9" panel on the Flip 3 and say hello to a spacious 3.4" display with a resolution of 720 x 748px. With a larger size, Samsung can now run apps on the cover display, taking it beyond basic widgets and unlocking a world of possibilities.

Rumor has it that the company has joined forces with Google bringing popular apps like Google Maps to the external display. While the exact extent of Maps' functionality with the phone closed is still a mystery, it is still an exciting prospect.

Will the screen deliver a full-fledged app experience like the Moto Razr 40 Ultra, or will it be a trimmed-down version? Only time will tell. Of course, other beloved Google apps, such as Messages and YouTube, are expected to be accessible from the external display as well.

And let's not forget that Samsung will also bring One UI apps to custom OneUI skin, maximizing the potential of this expanded canvas. Although it may not match the functionality of the Galaxy Z Fold 5's cover display, the new 3.4" panel on the Samsung Flip new model means that you'll find yourself opening the phone less frequently.

For more juicy details on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, fans must keep their eyes peeled for the official reveal on July 26th. The mid-year Unpacked Event 2023 nears, imminent to bring the two latest foldable devices by the company. The handsets combine new folding mechanisms, high IP ratings, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Processors for optimized battery usage and performance.
