In March next year, maybe April, we’ll be greeting the new Samsung Galaxy A58. The current Galaxy A57 had the same schedule. And so did many previous generations. Anyway, GalaxyClub leaked the newcomer’s camera details today. And apparently, the hardware is barely upgraded.
The publication actually reported the same camera setup we’ve seen on the Galaxy A57 before. 50MP sensor under the main lens. And there’s a 12MP ultrawide camera next to it. The least used camera on the device is probably the 5MP macro. This will also reappear on the Galaxy A58.
They’ve put a 12MP selfie camera on the front again. Resolution-wise, the Galaxy A58’s camera hasn’t changed one bit. The report doesn’t really say anything about the sensor sizes. And there was nothing in the leak about the sensor types.
They may use new outsoles or a bigger sensor for better image quality, but that’s just a theory for now. What we saw in the leak today is nothing to write home about. So the Samsung new A mobile could be yet another incremental upgrade when we look at the patterns, anyway.
Hardware costs are sky-high right now, so it could be unreasonable to expect better optics and ask for the same retail price. These companies maintain a balance, or at least they try to. Galaxy A57 already got expensive. We can only hope that the Galaxy A58 doesn’t get any pricier.
Of course, if Samsung did use the old camera hardware, they would definitely implement some software tricks to pull better image quality from the same sensors. That’s just a one-time R&D cost. Sadly, progress has slowed down, at least for the next few years, and Samsung is just another company hit by diseconomies of scale. Keep watching the news for more updates.
