This is the official beginning of 2027’s Galaxy A series. They just unveiled the Samsung Galaxy A18 4G in Europe. The phone actually debuted without any prompt or prior announcement. This newcomer is just a minor refresh over the A17 4G with no big upgrades to its name. That’s probably why the Galaxy A18 4G launched so discreetly. They did put a new Exynos 1610 chip on this handset, which should be faster than last year’s Helio G99, though Samsung just glossed over the details. We didn’t learn anything about the new SoC.
Anyway, the Samsung latest 4G model is in a unique position. It has stable Android 17 One UI 9 built-in straight from the factory. And this is probably the single entry-level phone on the market right now with the latest OS. Of course, the A08 is also in the same boat, so technically there are two devices.
Nothing changes on the screen, though. It still has a notch with thick bezels and an off-balance chin. It’s a 6.7” super AMOLED with a 1080p FHD+ resolution, and the refresh rate continues to be 90Hz. The notch does have a 13MP selfie camera again.
They’ve put a 50MP main rear camera in the unified camera stack. It’s f/1.8 with no OIS. And then comes a 5MP ultrawide shooter next to a 2MP macro sensor. The new chip doesn’t help with recording. They’ve locked the video capture to 1080p (30 FPS).
Galaxy A18 didn’t upgrade the battery. It’s still the same old 5000mAh cell with 1200 cycles, and there’s a 25W charging kit for wired input. It’s a bit thicker (7.7mm vs 7.5mm on the A17). The chassis gained some thickness, probably because of a higher IP rating.
The newcomer does have a better IP64 rating. A18 4G levels up the dust ingress protection. The base-level variant has 4GB RAM only, and the storage is 128GB for €280 (~PKR 89,000). If memory serves, the A17 4G had a €200 MSRP, and it had a far better entry point with 6/128GB trim.
