Samsung Galaxy A18 5G Expected to Use Snapdragon, while 4G Sibling Turns to MediaTek

The 4G Galaxy A18 will use the MediaTek chip again. But Exynos won’t be returning to the Samsung Galaxy A18 5G this time. They are swapping it out for a Snapdragon SoC. We saw a report from ZDNet in Korea, which gave us both the good and bad news.

We saw Galaxy A16 4G and A17 4G from the past two generations use the same MediaTek chips. There aren’t many high-end options to be considered. The performance is usually weak on the chips that only support 4G networks. The same cannot be said about the A16 and A17 5G.

The last two generations of these 5G variants have had the same Exynos 1330 chip. They don’t want to reuse the same chip for the third time in a row. They are actually skipping Exynos altogether, and Samsung now wants to give the Samsung latest A model a Snapdragon chip.

Users have mixed opinions about the Exynos platform. But the general consensus about Snapdragon chips is quite positive, so this will definitely be an improvement. Sadly, the performance disparity between Galaxy A18 4G and 5G will be larger than ever.

No one knows the exact model of the Snapdragon chip chosen for the Galaxy A18 5G. But it’s definitely something cheaper than the Exynos 1330, but equal in performance. The report says all of this is being done to control production costs and keep the phone price stable.

By the way, its production timeline also got leaked. Apparently, the Galaxy A18 4G will hit mass production come August. They’ll start slow at 100,000 units per month and scale it up with time. Of course, the A18 4G will launch first. The 5G version will step out later. Keep watching the news for more updates.
