Oppo Reportedly Working on a 100MP 1:1 Square Selfie Camera for Dynamic Framing

50MP selfie cameras are a dime a dozen these days. Oppo’s Reno and Find lineups have been at it for several generations, so it’s time to dial it up. It would appear that the company has started testing a 100MP 1:1 selfie camera for its phones. They want iPhone 17’s center stage functionality on their flagship devices, but with a big boost to the resolution.

The news came from a close Chinese source. Digital Chat Station found the details first-hand and posted the exclusive information on Weibo: 100MP 1:1 front camera under evaluation. The text doesn’t go beyond that. The tipster leaves the rest “open to interpretation.” So, of course, the internet tries to fill the gaps.

Apple took the curtains off its first Center Stage 24MP square selfie sensor last year on the iPhone 17 series. Now, imagine the same kind of functionality on an Oppo phone, but with 3 times the resolution. There’s a lot of potential here if they really are evaluating a 100MP 1:1 selfie camera. Here are the Oppo smartphone prices for popular smartphone models in Pakistan, based on listings from May 2026.

Not to get too technical, but the benefit of the square sensor is that the horizontal and vertical aspect ratios are the same in the camera viewport. So the camera zooms in a little bit and basically works as a face tracker to fit more people when needed, or center the view to your face when you are out of the frame.

That’s how the center stage works on iPhones, iPads, or MacBooks. The leaker didn’t specify if Oppo is using the 100MP sensor for that specific purpose. But they will be fools not to take advantage of the outsole’s 1:1 aspect ratio.

They will probably meld AI into the subject-centered algorithms to make it even more potent. The feature might even work with livestreams and video calls, not to mention the benefits for the short and long-form content creators.

Oppo hasn’t really confirmed any of it, so we can’t help but take this news with a grain of salt. We do hope that more sources will corroborate DCS’s leak in the days to come. After all, Oppo’s evaluation of a 100MP selfie sensor could carry the whole Android industry forward. Keep watching the news for updates.
