Oppo plans to expand its entry-level A5 series with a fifth member called the “Oppo A5x.” This device was recently spotted in leaked marketing material, revealing a few early details. Just like the older Oppo A5 Pro 4G, the A5x is also expected to be an LTE-exclusive device, continuing the trend within the ever-growing A5 family.
We were given some key specs through the leaked marketing material, and the first and most important thing we noticed is the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 SoC inside the A5x. This is not a powerful chip, but it does fit the entry-level category with a 2.1 GHz clock speed.
Qualcomm says that it is the same chipset as 2020’s Snapdragon 662, with some upgrades on the GPU side and a more efficient SoC design. It can handle general tasks without breaking a sweat, but it won’t perform as smoothly under heavier loads like gaming or video editing.
The display is probably going to be an IPS LCD, and the leak confirms this will get super bright at 1000 nits. There was no mention of its resolution, but if history is any indication, this Oppo budget new model might be headed for an HD+ resolution on a 90Hz refresh rate LCD.
At least the phone doesn’t disappoint in the battery department. As per the leak, the Oppo A5x has a decent-sized 6000mAh battery, and it could draw up to 45W from the wall using the supported adapter. It will get you through the day with plenty of battery left if you are a light user.
Oppo doesn’t like to skimp on durability, even if it’s an entry-level phone. Since the specs are mostly ordinary, the company might try to sell you Oppo A5x’s military-grade shockproofing and an IP65 rating. The rating means this phone will be safe from dust ingress and minor water splashes.
Then, there are its AI features. The A5x has an AI Editor suite for photos. It would seem the phone has a full collection with AI Eraser 2.0, AI Reflection Remover, AI Unblur, and AI Clarity Enhance.
