As promised, Nothing has just started pushing out the Android 16 beta to its Phone (3) users, and we have all the details right here. This seems to be a closed beta program. The Nothing Phone (3) owners who want to test drive this new operating system might have to fill out a sign-up form on the company’s official site.
The Android 16 beta gives you access to Nothing OS 4.0, but it’s currently limited to Phone (3) users only. The deadline to sign up for his beta program is pretty close, though. From what we hear, it’s open till August 3rd (5 PM, London time). This is just a five-step form, so it should be easy to fill out.
Of course, this beta has all the new features that come with the core Android 16 OS from Google itself. Then, there are new optimizations and utilities that are specific to the Nothing OS 4.0. Not all the details have been released yet, but you can expect a more “robust design system” and a “cohesive UI” with this new firmware.
As far as participation goes, this is a closed program, so not all the users will be selected for this beta Android 16 test run on the Nothing Phone new model. Only the users picked by Nothing will get an email with onboarding instructions soon after the deadline.
This is an early release of Android 16 on the Nothing Phone (3). There are bound to be some rough corners, bugs, glitches, and unfinished UI elements. Android devices usually lack rollback capabilities, so the beta testers will be warned before committing to this early Nothing OS 4 x Android 16 release.
After this early beta test, the second beta should be aired to a wider user base in September. The Phone (3) was already on a fast track to Android 16 update, just as it got released. It’s only a matter of time before the stable firmware is pinged to Nothing Phones, new and old.
