The next Galaxy Unpacked event is due on July 9th. On the same day, the company intends to demo “Galaxy G Fold,” which is a tri-folding phone. The design of this newcomer was exposed through an animation buried deep in the One UI 8 firmware. What surprised us the most was its uncanny resemblance to Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept.
Tecno has teased a concept tri-fold device called “Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept” hours before the Unpacked event, giving Samsung an open challenge. In the images, at least, this concept device looks like a finished product that could eventually make it to the consumer market.
Also, this Phantom G Fold has a completely different folding mechanism from Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate. It uses a smaller and a larger hinge on a singular folding screen, and each part of the panel falls flat on the other, making a “G” shape when closed.
Android Authority hinted at something similar through the animations they uncovered in the One UI 8. The latest Samsung Fold mobile, a tentative name, by the way, has the same folding mechanism, but instead of the secondary screen on the far end, it has the outer panel right in the middle.
There’s no telling which implementation works the best in a tri-folding concept. But rest assured, the company will not put a product on the shelf without thoroughly testing it first. For now, though, you can look at Ice Universe’s leaked Phantom Ultimate G Fold images to get an idea of how the Samsung device could look.
Of course, we won’t have to wait long now for the real design of the Galaxy G Fold to come out. The event will take place on July 9th. Only a few hours remain till the phone hits the stage. We’ll get back to you once all the devices are revealed, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
Apart from this Tri-fold concept, we suspect another entry in the foldable line, which could be a Fan-Edition Galaxy Z Flip 7. We are still trying to find out whether it’s going to arrive tomorrow or if it’s joining Samsung’s other FE tablets and smartphones in October. We'll let you know once we have the details. Stick around if you want to stay in the loop.
