iPhone 17 Air Leak Suggests Lightest Design, Si/C Battery & Premium Frame Material

Apple is slimming things down this year, literally. The iPhone 17 Air, set to replace the iPhone 16 Plus this September, is rumored to weigh less than the Galaxy S25 Edge. A new report pegs its weight at around 146g, though previous leaks have floated figures as low as 145g and as high as 150g. Here’s what you need to know.

It’s been confirmed for a fact that the iPhone 17 Air is thinner and lighter than its main competitor, Galaxy S25 Edge. The true figures are anyone’s guess at this point, but as far as the rumors go, Apple is pushing for a lighter, more comfortable large-screen iPhone.

iPhone 17 Air should be the same size as the iPhone 16 Plus but without the same thickness or weight. The reason why this device is so much lighter than the S25 Edge is that it doesn’t have the same Titanium chassis. The company is likely intending to use a 7000 series Aluminum alloy.

According to reports, the chassis made out of this material should only weigh 25-30g. Add a 35g AMOLED on top and an expected 7g of weight for the 48MP camera unit. Of course, the logic board, the MagSafe KIT, and other components have weights of their own, as well as the glass back, which allegedly measures 15g.

The battery might be 35g in weight and should hold 2800 to 2900mAh of capacity with a Si/C anode if we were to believe the rumors. All the components add up to 146g, which is pretty light for a modern-day flagship. What’s more is that the Apple iPhone new model is going to measure only 5.5mm thin, outshining its competitor in one more category.

There are no official details about the phone’s specifications, but the leakers are pursuing every possible lead into its features. The claims so far have revealed a 24MP selfie camera on the iPhone 17 Air with a 48MP Main shooter on the back.

This phone will have 8GB of RAM and an XDR OLED screen with a 120Hz quick refresh rate. There will be a Dynamic Island on the screen for face ID and interactive notifications. Fans can also expect wireless charging and an eSIM feature from this device. For the rest of the details, we might need to wait for more leaks to appear on the internet. Stick around if you don’t want to miss anything.
