Huawei Nova 7i: Five Reasons Why It Needs to be Your Next Smartphone

Faisal Rasool

Launched as Huawei Nova 6 SE, Huawei Nova 7i, or Huawei P40 Lite, in different markets, this mid-range device features a slick design, a fresh paint job, and best-in-class performance at an affordable Huawei price point. If you’re on a budget, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more value-packed model. Here’s why:

Captivating Design

The 7i has a polycarbonate build, but it’s crafted to mimic a metal + glass design. Its edges are curved, soft, and the phone feels comfortable and light to hold. In addition to chamfering the frame, Huawei has also polished it to present an embossed look.

The camera bump, protruding out from a corner, features a symmetrical layout. The entire shell, including the camera island, has been painted in Sakura Pink, Midnight Black, and Crush Green. The Sakura Pink is particularly head-turning with its soft light-blue-to-pink aesthetic.

Huawei Nova 7i is a Beast

Thanks to Huawei’s latest mid-range Kirin 810 processor, the Nova 7i outperforms every chipset in its bracket — leaving it second only to flagship-grade hardware.  For multitasking, you get 8GB of RAM onboard, rounded off by 128GB of storage. The storage is expandable to 256GB with Huawei proprietary NM SDcard.

Flagship-tier Battery

Not only can it handle even the most resource-heavy games, but its big 4,200 mAh battery will also keep you gaming for longer. On standard battery tests, the Nova 7i outlasts the Samsung Galaxy A52 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro with an endurance rating of a whopping 121 hours.

Plug it in when you’re running low, and Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge will power it up from 0 to 70% in 30 minutes.

A Camera that Lets you Shine

There are four cameras on the back, arranged in a squircle layout: a 48MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP bokeh camera, and a 2MP macro sensor. In daylight, it captures detailed, sharp, and accurate shots, when binned to 12MP photos. Toggle the ‘AI Clarity’ mode on to shoot in 48MP to take the detail and quality to the next level.

Your portraits come out with a great depth of field thanks to the depth-assist lens, and closeups from the macro camera deliver vivid, striking colors. The selfies from the 16MP front-facing camera present excellent contrast and detail as well.

In low-light, the photos remain detailed, brilliantly exposed, and tweaked with intelligent noise reduction. Switch the ‘Night Mode’ on, and you can bump the camera performance even further.

A Display You’ll Love

Its 6.3” screen is a simple, FullView Display punched in a corner. It’s edge-to-edge, trimmed around all the sides. It delivers an FHD+ resolution at 398 pixels per inch. A thumbprint reader mounted on the power button, lets you quickly unlock your phone.
