We got the camera details directly from the source. So there’s no need for leaks on the subject anymore. They still haven’t launched the Honor Robot Phone, but the company did hold a dedicated event in China to specifically talk about the newcomer’s camera hardware.
We already knew that the German cinema camera brand Arri had a hand in designing the gimbal camera system for Honor Robot Phone. This is the first handset with Log-C3 video encoding. They’ve added LUT color grading to it. And all the processing is done natively on the phone.
By the way, the Robot Phone has a Cinema camera mode that’s supposed to mimic the feel of Arri cameras. Believe it or not, the Honor Robot new phone has 100 patents for its new built-in technologies. And it’s understandable why they would want to keep this tech under lock and key.
Anyway, the camera details were all exposed by Honor. The facts about the gimbal system are parroted a hundred times, but now we know that the sensor on this camera is a 200MP 1/1.28” huge outsole. There’s an f/1.6 aperture here.
Yuguang H1 image signal processor is the in-house chip made by Honor that will do the post-processing. Honor has put a custom servo motor on the gimbal system that’s only 2.6 grams in weight. They say it’s 65% lighter but still pulls off a 35% higher torque density than other typical gimbal sensors.
And just to be clear, this is not the only camera on the Honor Robot phone. It has two more on the back. They are not on the gimbal, but it’s confirmed that a 200MP periscope telephoto is also coming to this newcomer, and so is the 50MP Ultrawide unit.
They are putting all this sweet gear on a small chassis. Apparently, the screen on Robot Phone is just 6.3” or 6.4” (conflicting reports). It’s a flagship device, so a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will do the heavy lifting. They’ll put a 6000mAh battery on it as well. August 12th is the official launch date for the Robot Phone.
