Sources agree that the Galaxy Fold duo and the Flip will be unveiled by the end of July. There’s a chance that Samsung will use a thicker UTG glass on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (wide), which forms the upper layer of the flexible AMOLED. This is everything you need to know.

UTG is the Ultra-Thin Glass layer that flexible AMOLEDs use as protection. This is usually how the folding phones deal with the crease, but there’s a delicate balance to maintain here. You can make the UTG thicker, and it will reduce the crease. This comes at the cost of durability, though.
Samsung latest Fold mobile, which is actually the new wide version, is about to use a thicker 60μm UTG than the Z Fold 7. This calls for a reasonable concern. The thick UTG is actually more susceptible to stress after repeated folding and could give out early.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 may be rated for fewer folds than the Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is still continuing with the 45μm UTG of its forerunner. The thin glass layer will be more flexible. Yes, the crease might still be visible, but at least the Ultra’s AMOLED will have more endurance.

The physics makes sense, but Samsung must’ve done its due diligence before putting the thicker UTG on the Z Fold 8. There are plenty of reasons to make the choice. And making the crease invisible is one of them, since that’s what we’ve been hearing from the rumor mill for weeks.
Samsung is rolling the dice on this change. No one knows how it will pan out. But if this UTG performs well, they might consider using it on the Galaxy Z Fold versions next year. All these details were shared in a report by ZDNet Korea. Obviously, we have our ears to the ground in case something new comes up. So you might want to stick around for more updates.
