Apple iPhone 17e Headed for Major Improvements; 18MP Selfie & Apple A19 Silicon

iPhone 17e is the next big item on Apple’s agenda. The company has already started working on this handset, and it’s probably headed for a launch in February next year. Early supply chain insights reveal a few secrets about this device. Here’s what we know about the iPhone 17e so far.

Jeff Pu is keeping tabs on iPhone 17e’s supply chain, along with a few other budget products the company has been working on. He suggests that the selfie camera is getting a big upgrade. The screen on this device is still 60Hz, but they might finally drop the notch.

iPhone 16e scored a 12MP lens on the front, right next to the 3D depth mapper for face ID, last time. The device up next seems to use an 18MP selfie sensor, and it’s not just your ordinary camera. There’s a center stage feature baked in. They’ve aligned the camera with the main iPhone 17 series.

There’s obviously just one camera on the back, since they want to build a gap between the budget iPhone 17e and the vanilla iPhone 17. This could be a 48MP lens — no upgrades there. Another massive change Jeff Pu reported is the Dynamic Island cutout on the display.

iPhone 16e is the only one left in Apple’s whole roster with a persistent U-notch on the forehead. It will vanish next year, as they plan to use a 6.1” pill cutout OLED screen on the latest iPhone model. There’s still just a 60Hz refresh rate on this device. It’s obviously still maintaining the budget position.

Of course, generation-over-generation upgrades will also include a better chip. In this case, iPhone 17e is built around the new Apple A19 silicon. There’s no compromise on performance. Some reports had claimed a new Apple C2 Modem for the phone. But Jeff Pu believes the C1 Modem’s making a comeback.

The main Apple A19 chip and C1 5G modem are apparently assisted by a third chip: N1 wireless silicon. This will speed up the peer-to-peer wireless transfers and increase power efficiency. We have our ears to the ground for more developments on the iPhone 17e. Keep watching the news.
