Apple iPhone 12 Series Might Be Delayed Until October, the Chipmaker Qualcomm Hints

Qualcomm’s CFO, Akash Palkiwala, in an interview published on 9to5Mac all but confirmed that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 series would be delayed until the end of 2020. Mr Palkiwala notes that the 5G chips set for shipping in fall, have been rescheduled to the end of this year. What does that mean for the four 5G iPhone models? They won’t hit stores in September as they do every year.

In its publically shared revenue report for Q3, the chip manufacturer details that owing to the rescheduling of a certain 5G flagship smartphone release, the chipset shipments will be affected in the Q4 of 2020. Speculation suggests that this mystery 5G flagship be Apple’s iPhone 12 since its the only big launch in September — going by Apple’s typical release calendar.

Following its patent battle last year — when Apple paid $4.5 billion in settlement to the chipmaker — the next generation of the iconic iPhone will feature Qualcomm-manufactured 5G modems that support sub-6 GHz and mmWave 5G. The 5G connectivity will be offered across the board, with all four iPhone 12 editions.

The tech analyst Jon Prosser predicts that the iPhone 12 and the new iPads won’t make their debut until October. A release slated for October or even November might be vexing for fans, but it’s not unexpected. The now two-generation old iPhone X and iPhone XR didn’t make it to store shelves until late October.
