Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and Galaxy Z Slide Spotted in a Leak, Key Details Emerge

Samsung’s foldable products have gotten way more ambitious in the last few years. They released Galaxy Z TriFold to the consumer market a while ago, their first handset with dual hinges. Yes, the device was discontinued just three months after launch, but the new Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will carry on its lineage. They are also working on a Galaxy Z Slide prototype. 


What they are trying to do is a bit confusing, so no use trying to make sense of it just yet. They’ve discontinued the Galaxy Z TriFold lineup. But they don’t want to abandon the dual-fold form factor. They’ll give it one more shot with a phone called “Galaxy Z TriFold 2.”

Again, don’t focus too much on the naming. Hopefully, future leaks will provide clarity. The TriFold 2 will be much thinner and lighter. A leak from Korea says it could be almost as thin as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That device is 8.9mm thin in the folded state. And it’s one of the thinnest models (unfolded) at just 4.2mm. 


The Samsung Fold's new mobile splits three times, and its thickness comes down to 12.9mm in the folded state. Trimming its depth close to 8.9mm will be a significant design upgrade. But we’re still concerned about what it could mean for the phone’s durability. A tri-fold that thin could be fragile.


It’s not a yearly refresh. And the original series has been officially discontinued. So there’s no way to know when the next Z TriFold 2 will launch. The Naver Blogger predicts a mid-2027 launch for this device, but take this claim with a grain of salt. The same leaker also speaks of a Galaxy Z Slide phone that could debut in 2027 or 2028. 

Samsung is building a Slide prototype right now. Apparently, this handset has an automatic sliding screen, so it could involve motors or a rolling mechanism to turn a normal phone into a 7” diagonal handset. Samsung has worked on a few concepts like this before, but none have even reached the consumer market. Keep watching the news for updates.
