All Android Phones to Get Gemini Live Camera for Free — No Subscription Needed

Google plans to open the Gemini live camera and screen share feature to all Android devices. So far, only the Galaxy S25 series has been given free access to this feature through a 6-month Gemini Advance Subscription, but the company no longer intends to hide this feature behind a subscription-wall. That means everyone will be able to use it in a few weeks.

Google is starting small with only the Galaxy phones getting free access to Gemini Live camera. More devices should join later. If you didn’t know already, the Gemini AI assistant has a feature known as “Astra,” which allows the Galaxy S25 series and Subscribed users to share the live camera feed with the assistant, so it can also see what you are looking at in real-life.

Using this feature, you can simply point the camera to an object and ask Gemini to find details about it or describe the surroundings. This option normally requires a Gemini Advance subscription to be used on other Android phones, but Samsung’s Galaxy S25 already has this feature built into the system with a 6-month free subscription.

Lucky for us, Google has decided that this feature should be available for free on all Android devices, and they are starting with Galaxy phones first. The rollout is expected to hit Samsung’s latest flagship models initially, so if you have one of Samsung’s devices, you can download the free app through the Play Store and access the Gemini Live camera without any subscription.

This feature demands screen sharing and overlay permission to see through the camera viewport. It’s essentially providing Gemini eyes to look at its surroundings for more interactive assistance. Let’s say you wanted to know translation of a bill board or description for products in front of you.

Gemini will search though the internet and find relevant results for you based on what it sees in the camera. You don’t have to take a pic and use the Google Lens, which requires several more steps. Gemini’s Live Camera and Screen Share can do it in seconds.

Astra features work on Android version 10 devices and above through the very same Gemini app that’s available on Play Store already. Google always releases its new features in increments, so it might take several weeks before the free Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Share reaches Pakistan. We’ll keep an eye out for its availability in the country. Stick around, if you want to stay in the loop.
