They’ve officially launched the ZTE Nubia RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China, and it’s the first gaming phone out there with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 SoC. They doubled down on liquid cooling this year, and yes, it does have a bigger battery for longer gaming sessions. This is everything you need to know.
RedMagic 12 Pro+ is built around a 6.85” BOE X11 OLED that has a 1.5K resolution. And because it’s a gaming phone, that OLED refreshes at 185Hz. It has 500Hz touch sampling with 5000Hz instantaneous touch. The bezels are just 0.96mm at their thinnest. Of course, there’s no punch hole to disrupt the view.
Apparently, the screen has 1,900 nits of global brightness, which will peak at 5,000 nits in isolated areas. The phone’s 2,592Hz PWM dimming at low brightness would feel pretty close to DC dimming, by the way. It even has the fastest mobile chip in the world.
It’s a flagship gaming phone, so you get the best Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip at a 5.01 GHz boost clock. RedCore R5 gaming chip and G1 display controller work with that SoC for performance gains. ZTE latest nubia mobile bears LPDDR5T RAM (10,667Mbps) and UFS 4.1 Pro storage.
The newcomer’s battery has leveled up. It’s now 8400mAh with 120W wired charging, but you can always bypass the battery to directly power the phone while you play. 80W wireless input is also here when you need it. ICE cooling system does a great job at thermal control.
Gaming phones need to remain cool under load, and that’s why the ICE RedMagic 12 Pro+ has a triple thermal solution. An active Cooling fan pairs with a liquid cooling loop, and some thermal materials draw heat away from the chip. The fan hits 25,500 rpm. And this is Nubia’s first time putting RGB in the liquid loop.
There’s now a proper IP69 rating on the handset, by the way. We have a 50MP main camera next to a 50MP ultrawide. And the hidden selfie camera is 16MP. 700Hz A+B shoulder triggers are present on the frame. It has dual speakers at the bottom. WiFi 7 is also supported here, and the fingerprint reader is ultrasonic as always. CNY 6,999 (~PKR 289,000) is the base price for the RedMagic 12 Pro Plus (12/256GB).
