Thanks to the ever-evolving innovations in charging tech, smartphone top-up times have been reduced to mere minutes. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is currently the fastest-charging phone from Xiaomi in terms of pure wattage. At 120W, this flagship can fully charge itself in just 23 minutes. But the company just demoed new HyperCharge technology that leaves even this beast in the dust.
In a video published across Xiaomi’s social media, a custom build of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is used to demonstrate the new break-neck charging technology that operates at a whopping 200W. This feature fully charges the Mi 11 Pro in just eight minutes!
Compared to Mi 10 Ultra’s 4500 mAh cell, the battery inside this Mi 11 Pro is only 4000 mAh, but the 200W charger still cuts the required time almost in half. To bring the phone up to 50% capacity, the HyperCharge only takes three minutes.
The HyperCharge hardware isn’t limited to a wire either. Xiaomi tests the same setup with wireless charging, but the power is capped at 120W. It’s a step up from the 80W charger Xiaomi unveiled last year.
The technology is said to be featured soon in upcoming hi-end devices at a flagship Xiaomi mobile price. The reported charging speed is many times faster than what you get on regular wired connections. The wireless Hypercharge delivers 50% capacity in seven minutes and 100% in fifteen minutes. Whichever charger you plug into, it’ll be done by the time you have a cup of tea.
Safety and battery degradations are the two obvious concerns that crop up when it comes to 120W/200W of charging power. Concerns that Xiaomi will iron out before (or if) HyperCharge technology hits the consumer market.
