Xiaomi Redmi A7 Pro 5G Unveiled with Long Software Support and 6,300mAh Battery

Redmi A series has never had the “Pro” moniker until now. They’ve released the Xiaomi Redmi A7 Pro in an Asian country today after the European rollout in March. The handset is massive with a 6.9” screen, not counting the bezels, and a thick chin surrounding it. The A7 Pro is a 5G device, by the way. So it has a decent SoC as well. Here’s a brief overview.

It will arrive in more Asian countries later, but first, the A7 Pro has reached India. As we said, the screen is quite big on the Redmi A7 Pro. It’s a 6.9” IPS LCD that pushes pixels at a 120Hz rate. The brightness goes all the way up to 800nits. Then comes the disappointing screen resolution. It’s 720p HD+ only. But the phone does make up for it with the performance, since it doesn’t have to render as many pixels.

The engine on Xiaomi's latest A model is the eight-core Unisoc T8300. The performance on this thing will match the MTK Helio G99, though the T8300 unlocks 5G support for the handset. The boost clock is 2.2 GHz. And there’s a Mali G57 MP2 graphics unit here.

The chipset performs great in isolation, but they’ve kneecapped this T8300 by using only 4GB RAM on the A7 Pro. Multitasking will take a hit, and you’ll see lag more often in the OS. By the way, the newcomer runs the full version of Android 16 and the bloated Hyper OS 3.

Xiaomi did promise 4 years of OS support for the newcomer. The support goes all the way to 6 years with security patches. It’s not a high-end phone, so all you get is 15W slow charging. The good news is, you’ll only need to charge once per day, since its battery is quite big at 6300 mAh.

The best storage trim buyers can pick is the 128GB UFS 2.2 unit. It’s limited by today’s standards when TikTok alone sometimes takes 10 GB of space. For what it’s worth, the A7 Pro does have an SD card slot. So you can add more room for media and other files.

The rear main shooter is 32MP, exactly what the Redmi A5 had. The 8MP selfie snapper also makes a comeback. All you get with the base Redmi A7 Pro is 64GB storage and 4GB RAM for ~$125 (~PKR 35,000). But there’s not a huge gap as you jump to 4/128GB trim. The latter costs ~$135 (~PKR 37,000).
