The company's ultimate low-cost handheld, the Redmi A1 will soon get replaced by the Xiaomi Redmi A2. The oncoming smartphone is making headlines left and right, and its certification listings are the center of buzz. After BIS, Thailand's NBTC database indexed the phone as approved. Here is a preview of NBTC's file.

From the file, we discovered Xiaomi Redmi A2's model number, 23028RN4DG. The letter "G" at the end indicates the phone is a Global variant. Thailand might be one of the first countries to receive the phone. The file did not include any notable details about its specs.

The Rumor mill has been active lately, reporting on A2's specs. According to details from the leak circles, the newcomer will look identical to its parent A1. That translates to a similar screen size and dual camera setup. Here are some of its leaked renders.

Reports indicate Redmi A2's screen size at 6.52-inch with an IPS panel and HD+ resolution (1600 x 720 pixels). The latest Xiaomi budget mobile's top bezel will bear a 5MP selfie camera inside a drop notch inherited from its predecessor.

Flipping it over, users will find the A2 with a dual camera design inside a squircle island. The primary sensor will be 8MP, assisted by a 2MP depth mapper. To store photos and precious memories, Redmi A2 will feature 32GB native storage combined with 2GB of RAM.

The only major upgrade with the phone will be its SoC. Unlike Redmi A1's Helio A22 chip, the sequel A2 will bring MediaTek's new and improved Helio A36. In addition, a 5000mAh cell will live under the phone's hood just like the Xiaomi Redmi mobile 10C, but only a 10W plug will recharge it. Out of the box, Android 13 Go (lite-Android) will be its default operating system.
