The Redmi 9 has arrived in Pakistan, following a brief promotional campaign. It’s a mid-range handset with an unbelievably low Xiaomi price tag, built with a focus on performance and symmetry of design. Here’s a quick breakdown.
The rear-shell is chamfered, the corners boxy, and textured all over — save for the circular decoration that surrounds the camera. Three lenses + fingerprint scanner are enclosed inside one capsule, and a fourth camera + LED live in a pill-shaped cutout next to it.
The Redmi 9 comes in Carbon Grey, Sunset Purple, Ocean Green colors. The ‘Sunset Purple’ edition is particularly eye candy, with its soft purple-to-blue gradient.
The Redmi 9 display on the other side extends 6.53” from corner to corner, filled with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, FHD+ resolution, and an 89.83% screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi has carved into it a notch that houses the phone’s 8MP selfie camera.

The setup isn’t the most robust you’ll find in this price bracket: the main camera has a tiny f/2.2 aperture, and the ultrawide shots can only capture 118° FoV.
MediaTek’s Helio G80 processor powers the Redmi 9, in addition to a 5,020 mAh Xiaomi battery that supports 18W fast charge. You can get at least 9 hours of heavy usage out of this cell. Xiaomi promises an 82% improvement in CPU performance and up to 309% in GPU performance over last year’s Redmi 8.
