Xiaomi is to launch the 17 Ultra on December 25th, way sooner than it released the Xiaomi 15 Ultra last year. Of course, the teaser spree has begun already, as the phone only has two days left. This newcomer even showed its design in one of those teasers. We also found an official sample from Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera.
The Ultra phones are always best at photography, and historically, we have seen four rear cameras in this segment. But the 17 Ultra has brought a change in a less-is-more sort of way. It now has three sensors, not four.
Xiaomi Group VP Xu Fei has posted a teaser video on social media and showed how the latest Xiaomi ultra mobile will look in the hands. It’s a massive white slab with a dark crater on the back. The circular plate is where those three massive cameras are housed.
The lenses are arranged asymmetrically on it. They obviously wanted to make room for that huge 200MP periscope camera. It has the biggest lens we’ve seen on a phone. Xiaomi claims that it’s 35% larger than the one on Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and we believe this might be the best zoom shooter on the market once released.
There are two other cameras below. The main shooter is the 50MP OmniVision OV50X — the best one they’ve ever made. This huge 1” sensor has 3rd gen LOFIC tech, so the photos come out brighter in low light scenes with better dynamic range.
The third is possibly a 50MP ultrawide lens, but it won’t be in the talks as much. LEICA is back in the picture, by the way. The camera company will share its filters and color science with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The whole camera assessment got LECIA’s APO optical certification, which means it’s free of color fringing at longer zoom.
Anyway, a nighttime photo sample has been shared by the company, taken on Xiaomi 17 Ultra. We are sharing it with you right here, so you can judge its quality yourself. 25th is close. Keep watching the news for full coverage once the device is released. We’ll get back to you with its specs and pricing.
