Xiaomi 17 Ultra Could Launch Before New Year; Here's What We Know so Far

Xiaomi 15 Ultra was seen for the first time in February this year, but it’s being replaced by its successor two months early. By the way, the company is skipping the 16 Ultra moniker. They plan to name the device Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and it seems the newcomer will arrive before the new year.

The leaker Smart Pikachu, whose name is always botched by Auto Translate, but gets recognized anyway, seems to believe that Xiaomi will open blind pre-order for the 17 Ultra on December 15th. That will keep going till December 25th. Thereafter, the company should debut the newcomer on December 26th. It seems to be a pre-new-year surprise.

Some renders and spy shots that have appeared until today are pretty conclusive of one fact. There’s no outer display, and there’s one less rear camera this year. They are getting rid of the extra telephoto lens. And no, the Pro series does not share its extra screen with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

The launch seems to be China-only, so if you live outside their home market, you’ll have to be patient here. The cost of this new Xiaomi Ultra mobile is suspected to be the same as last time. Again, nothing can be said for the global market yet.

If the launch did happen early, as the leaker claims it would, this puts the usual global launch timeline in jeopardy. China and international launches usually fall pretty close. They used to debut the Ultra phones in February, and later show them off at MWC Barcelona in March and deploy them worldwide at the event.

Does this mean we’ll have to wait three months after the Chinese launch to see the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in other regions? Only time will tell. But we do know for a fact that the device has a 200MP periscope telephoto with a 50MP Main unit. The third lens will be a 50MP ultrawide.

There’s going to be a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip here. Some rumors peg the phone’s battery at 7000 mAh; others say it will be 8000 mAh. Of course, some of these details still need corroborating. We’ll get back to you once we have more information on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Keep watching the news for updates.
