They are not done with the Xiaomi 17 series just yet. And we aren’t talking about the mid-year lineup refresh either. There’s a new device in the R&D that could be dubbed Xiaomi 17 Max. The name implies it’s something akin to Xiaomi 17 Pro or Pro Max, but it’s actually a design with no rear screen. So it matches the vanilla Xiaomi 17.
There was a leak earlier this month that talked about its battery and chipset. It could very well use a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and an 8,000 mAh battery. Xiaomi 17 Max has now been seen in another credible leak that exposed camera specs and potential launch timeline.
Digital Chat Station says its launch is actually within the second quarter of this year, so it’s still pretty far. Xiaomi Max new model will also carry an all-LEICA camera setup to match the others. And the specs so far guarantee that it’s a pure flagship phone.
Again, the design mimics the vanilla Xiaomi 17. They upgraded the camera setup on the Max version. There’s a 200MP ISOCELL HPX 1/1.4” main sensor on the back (vs. 50MP on the basic Xiaomi 17). One of the cameras is a periscope telephoto, a 50MP 1/1.95” Sony IMX8-series sensor to be specific.
Then comes their standard-issue 50MP Ultrawide sensor that’s seen on all Xiaomi 17 phones so far. Xiaomi 17 Max will have that too. DCS didn’t talk about the selfie shooter, but if the pattern holds, it’s also 50MP.
Any LEICA features used on the vanilla, Pro, and Pro Max versions, this 17 Max sibling will have those as well. There’s very little information out there about the newcomer. Whatever we’ve seen so far has come from leaks.
There was another leak about half a month ago from the same source, and it said that the 17 Max will bring the lineup’s largest battery. It could be an 8,000 mAh cell with 100W wired charging and a 50W wireless solution. We’ll get back to you when more details are disclosed. Keep watching the news.
