Vivo has unveiled another phone with the “Y400” moniker. The newcomer is called “Vivo Y400 5G,” and it brings some welcome upgrades over the existing 4G variant. The latest model has a better selfie camera, a newer chip, faster charging speeds, and more. Here’s everything you need to know about this device.
Even though they look identical, the LTE and 5G models are vastly different in terms of hardware. The Vivo Y400 5G has arrived in India first and could be deployed in other regions soon. This model is based on a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip. It's a 4nm platform with more GPU power and energy efficiency. And Vivo mounted a faster UFS 3.1 storage on it for some performance gain.
The Y400 5G also gets a better selfie camera over the 4G model. They’ve upgraded it to 32MP, which should capture sharper images. The rear camera hasn’t changed, though. It’s a combo of 50MP main and 2MP portrait depth mapper, limited to 1080p 30 FPS video recording.
The screen on this Vivo budget new model is a 1080p FHD+ AMOLED with a decent 6.67” size. The bezels are quite thin, although not as uniform as some other devices in this price range. At least it supports a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1800 nits peak brightness for higher readability under the sun.
Vivo Y400 5G has been tested for an IP68/IP69 rating, which means it’s completely dustproof and able to withstand full water submersion for 30 minutes at a 2-meter depth. It even secured a military-grade drop protection rating from SGS.
The older Y400 4G had a silicon-carbon anode for the battery. Sadly, it’s missing from the 5G model. It brings the very same 6000mAh capacity, but the newcomer recharges way faster at 90W input. It also has bypass charging, which was missing from the other variant.
There’s dual-band WiFi on this model and an optical fingerprint ID under the screen. Its chassis is also embedded with dual speakers. Price-wise, the Vivo Y400 5G only costs $250 (~PKR 71,000) for the starter 8/128GB, which is a bit steep, but not unusual for Vivo’s mobile price list in 2025.
