Samsung’s Long-Rumored TriFold May Appear at APEC before November Launch

A Galaxy Tri-fold device is already in the works behind the scenes. Until now, we have had no specific launch window to share with our readers. But that changes today. The rumor mill has pinpointed the exact timeline for when we’ll see a live demonstration of this tri-fold handset.

Samsung may be planning an official keynote at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The event is supposed to start on October 31 and end on November 1. This could be where Samsung finally demos its first consumer tri-fold device, but let’s not color our opinions just yet.

The announcements and demonstrations will come first. We’ll then see a proper retail deployment. The safest bet for the Tri-Fold’s consumer launch would be next month, in November. We assume the rest of its details will probably be shared on the same day.

Of course, the latest Samsung Fold mobile will not have a full-scale production, as this will be a trial run. We know that the retail will hit South Korea first. It will contain a limited stock — roughly 50,000 units. This is almost the third of the usual production scale for normal Galaxy devices.

Huawei already tested something similar, but it was a global miss. Samsung’s new model will be staring down at the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate with a slightly clever hinge mechanism. Instead of the Z format, the Galaxy Tri-fold is presumed to have a G-style fold, where one flap lies on the other without exposing the inner display.

This may be pricier to execute. Huawei Mate XT Ultimate costs around $2500, but the rumor mill pegs the Galaxy Tri-fold at nearly $3000 per unit. That’s an insane amount to spend on a handset. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the limited stock will push it beyond an average person’s reach.

Galaxy Tri-Fold will also hit the US market once the Korean launch is wrapped. But there’s no telling how much stock or when this deployment will occur. We’ll find more details about this device as we get closer to the APEC summit. Keep watching the news for updates.
