Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Cleared by IMDA; Launch Might be Closer Than You Think

Now the Galaxy Z TriFold is certified, so there’s no stopping it from entering the consumer market. This newcomer was just demoed by the company in Korea about a week ago. We later saw a press coverage, where they teased the device hands-on. The phone is surreal.

Samsung just got the TriFold cleared for Singapore launch. IMDA listed the phone in their public directory. TheTechOut was the one to find the document as soon as the database was updated. The details that were shared also seemed interesting and worth sharing with our readers.

Well, you can recognize the phone by its model number SM-F968B/DS. That’s the first secret IMDA spoiled for the Galaxy Z TriFold. The name hasn’t been confirmed, by the way. Z TriFold is just a placeholder for now.

Anyway, IMDA had more to spill on its database besides just the model code. This latest Samsung Fold mobile apparently has Ultra wideband support, which makes it pretty obvious that the phone’s eventually going to land in the US. The “DS” suffix in the name usually means dual SIM.

The rest is standard hardware: Bluetooth, NFC, WiFi, etc. You have to note that the DS version only comes to a few markets, and they didn’t say if it’s eSIM-based or not. Z TriFold is the thinnest possible device they could make. We don’t think there’s any room for a physical SIM on the device.

This newcomer may come with an eye-watering price tag. The rumors peg it at $3000. Samsung isn’t expecting a lot of sales out of this device. There’s going to be very little demand for it. That’s why they are only producing 20,000 to 30,000 units for the first batch.

Usually, when IMDA listings appear, the devices follow up with a lunch in a month. We suspect the Galaxy Z TriFold is right around the corner. And not just for soft launch, a full retail deployment is on the horizon. Details are still coming in. We’ll let you know if there are any more updates.
