Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Leak Hints at World’s Thinnest Foldable Design & 1mm Bezels

Samsung’s upcoming foldable is about to set a new benchmark for slim design in the foldable phone category. According to a recent tip from prominent leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have an ultra-thin profile, just 3.9mm (unfolded) and 8.9mm (folded). This would make it the thinnest book-style foldable ever released, narrowly overtaking the current titleholder, the Oppo Find N5.

What Ice Universe revealed about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could have a rippling effect on the foldable phone market. Just yesterday, Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold was tipped with a design that’s supposed to be even thinner than Samsung’s, using the display maker’s own technology that they’ve never used for its devices.

Needless to say, if Apple did release an iPhone Fold this year, Samsung would have some tough competition at hand. IceCat, AKA Ice Universe, gave away the Z Fold 7’s measurement on his latest Twitter/X post. It seems that this device is 158.4 mm in length and 143.1 mm in width.

When it comes to thickness, the Samsung Fold's latest model is only 3.9 mm (unfolded), which is a jaw-dropping number and beats almost every other foldable out there. It’s clear from the image Ice shared that neither the Galaxy Z Fold 6 nor the Z Fold Special Edition holds a candle to the Fold 7’s design. It’s simply too thin.

The leaker had more to share on his X profile. He talks about the Z Fold 7’s inner display bezels that might shrink by half this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 from last year had black borders around the inner screen measuring 1.9mm. If the leak pans out, which is a likely event based on the IceCat’s track record, this Fold 7 will shrink the bezels down to 1mm.

The company is also working on the Flip 7, and according to the new leak, its bezels are only 1.2mm thin. That’s also a huge improvement over its forerunner. Samsung is realizing that Chinese competitors are slowly taking over, and the Z Fold 7 gives the phone maker a chance to show its design chops and take back the lead in the folding phone market.

Thickness reduction is the right step to normalize foldable phones, and Z Fold 7 is the closest you can get to a bar-style device with only 8.9mm thickness. But this also means compromising on the battery. The Z Fold 7 might be stuck with the same 4400 mAh battery as last year. Details are still coming out about this newcomer, so stick around for updates until the Fold’s expected debut in July.
