Samsung Galaxy A36 & A26 First Update: A36 Gains A/B Partitions for Faster Updates

Samsung Galaxy A26 and A36 are receiving their first-ever firmware updates after the official debut last month. Feature-wise, the new software package is insignificant, but it does have the latest April 2025 security patch, which fixes up to 56 newly found vulnerabilities in the operating system.

This new firmware update also helps uncover which of these two devices has the A/B partition system for the “Seamless Update Feature.” From what we have gathered, the more expensive A36 model supports this feature, but the same cannot be said about the cheaper Galaxy A26.

The company’s Galaxy A56 has not received its first update yet, though we assume that this model will also have the A/B partitioning system for a smoother transition from firmware to firmware. The Galaxy A55 also had this feature, which leads us to believe the A56 will bring that as well.

Galaxy A55 was the first Samsung device last year with Google’s Seamless Update support, a feature that reduces downtime by switching between partitions upon reboot during the update process. You should also know that this is a factory-built partition system, which means the latest Samsung 5G mobile, the Galaxy A26, will need to rely on the traditional update method in the foreseeable future.

About the latest firmware update, Galaxy A26 received a 290 MB package that is currently rolling out in Europe and can be spotted with a firmware code “A266BXXS2AYC1.” This package will contain the security patches belonging to the April 2025 OTA.

Galaxy A36 is acquiring the firmware version “A366BXXS2AYC4” across Europe with the same April 2025 patch, but the update here weighs around 441 MB. As always, the update should be easy to install by following these few steps if you are in the region.

Go to the Settings app first and navigate to the bottom to find the Software Update section. Check for updates if the package hasn’t appeared in the menu yet. Upon availability, a Download and Install button should appear alongside a Changelog of the update.

The Galaxy A36 and A26 recently arrived in Pakistan as well, and for those who plan to buy them, the update should appear on the local devices soon. After completing a tour in Europe, the April Patch should start deployment in the remaining regions, so stay tuned for more updates.
