We’re getting close to the window when Samsung usually unveils a Galaxy A device, which means the Samsung Galaxy A18 might come out any day. They’ve been keeping this newcomer under lock and key, but there was a slip-up last night that led us straight to its internal hardware and Android version. We’re talking about a Geekbench test run.
Well, SM-A185G seems to be the actual model code for this handset. And the name of the handset is right there in the figures. By the way, this will be the 4G version of the handset, not 5G. This wasn’t explicitly given anywhere on the test bench’s results.
We believe this is the 4G model because it has an MTK MT6789 SoC. The normal title of that chip is Helio G99, and we are pretty familiar with what this chip can and can’t do. 4G LTE support is all you get with this eight-core platform, plus you have a boost clock capped at 2.2GHz.
And yes, they’ve used this very same chip for the past two generations now, and Samsung latest A model makes three. 745 and 2,073 are the Single and Multicore test figures on this phone. Pretty modest, even for an entry-level phone. Most of you must be familiar with its real-world performance anyway.
It would seem that the base RAM on Galaxy A18 is just 4GB, or at least in this instance, we have 4GB RAM on the variant tested over Geekbench. We don’t know yet if that would be enough for consistent performance on Android 17. Yes, the A18 actually has Android 17 built in.
A couple of renders also got leaked. Onleaks and Smartphone Checker gave us the full preview of its design, and that’s when we knew it has a U notch again. Samsung isn’t willing to let go of this display style just yet.
We heard another rumor that the 4G version will be put into mass production in August, and 100,000 units will be produced in the first round. They’ll scale it up to 2.4 million units in September, and 2.5 million units by October. Of course, they’ll react to the market conditions. Keep watching the news for more updates.
