Oppo is pushing an early release of the ColorOS 12, built on the latest Android 12, to customers who sign up for their beta testing program. But this ColorOS 12 x Android 12 beta project is limited to four Oppo phones and three countries, India, China, and Pakistan.

Oppo announced the rollout of the ColorOS 12 Open Beta through an official post on their community forums. In the first round of beta testing, Oppo will only accept 8000 users — 3000 for Pakistan and 5000 for India. You can put in your application between December 8 and December 13, 2021. Oppo Reno 5 Pro and Reno 5 Pro 5G are eligible for this program, among others.

Once the application is accepted, Oppo will update your phone within three days. To enroll, navigate to the ‘Settings’ menu, find the ‘Software Update’ section, and tap ‘Apply for Beta version’ or ‘Update Beta Version.’

The Reno 5 series is the flagship lineup in the Oppo price list, launched in January 2021. Do note that it’s a beta version of the OS so bugs and glitches are bound to turn up. That’s why Oppo recommends you backup your phone before upgrading. Lag, overheating, and battery issues are possible. Plus, some obscure Android apps are not yet compatible with Android 12.

The stable Android 12 x ColorOS 12 should start rolling out next month for regular users. But Oppo has yet to confirm that officially.
