Much like Samsung with its Exynos chips, Oppo releases the global and domestic editions of its flagships with different processors. Case in point, last year’s Reno 3 Pro, which featured a 5G Snapdragon 765G chip, while the global variant debuted with an underwhelming Helio P95 SoC. Reportedly, Reno 4 Pro, the global edition will keep this trend going. Here’s what two popular reviewers note.
The OPPO Reno 4 Pro has been signed off by the BIS and IMDA certifications, suggesting that launches in those markets should be inching closer. With it, Oppo has sent out review units to popular online tech personalities. Two of whom, @stufflistings and @LinusTech, confirm that the upcoming flagship will be different than the original release.
Though it retains its design, the global Reno 4 Pro reaches a revised screen refresh rate. The Chinese variant produces a 90Hz display, which could either be bumped up to 120Hz or lowered to the standard 60Hz — speculation points to the former.
Linus Tech Tips published the display on their Twitter, showcasing the phone’s front-facing single hole punch. The edges have a 3D curved profile, retained from the standard Oppo Reno 4 Pro. Oppo will, however, be cutting corners by swapping out the chipset for a less ‘premium’ one. In this case, the Snapdragon 765G platform might be replaced by one of the current-gen Dimensity processors. GizChina speculates that it’s cheaper for Oppo to sell phones with Qualcomm chips in its domestic market than to export them with the same hardware.
