The Chinese Oppo Reno 16 Pro showed up in a leak last month. Digital Chat Station had revealed most of its specs at Weibo. We’ve now found the Reno 16 Pro (global) in a leak. Apparently, these are not the same devices. One has a smaller screen than the other and weaker performance.
The details came from YogeshBrar over on X. The leaker recently made a post that spilled the Reno 16 Pro’s launch window and some key specs. It is possible that this newcomer will have its global unveiling sometime between July and August, which is quite far.
It is believed that the global Oppo latest Pro mobile has a 6.32” screen, which will put this phone in the compact category. The Chinese version was reported with a 6.78” AMOLED, so you are looking at completely non-identical phones here, even though they have the same name.
And it’s not really a surprise, because the same thing happened last year, too. They wanted to make room for the Reno 15 Pro Max as the new high-end phone in the series. So the Reno 15 Pro was shoved into the bottom ranks. It’s just a hunch, but we believe the Reno 16 Pro is actually similar to the vanilla Reno 16 from China.
Anyway, the leaker reported a metal glass build for the Reno 16 Pro (global). They aren’t really changing the cameras. There was already a 200MP camera on the former version, so they plan to reuse it. The Reno 16 Pro is also claimed to have a bigger battery than before.
The exact figure was missing from this leak, but the older Reno 15 Pro version was built around a 6200mAh battery. The Chinese Reno 16 Pro is meant to use a 7000mAh pack, so maybe the global version would too. An Action button, similar to the iPhone, could also appear on the Oppo Reno 16 Pro.
We are seeing a common theme here. Reno 15 Pro also had a 6.32” screen and a 200MP main camera with a metal aluminum frame. It had a Dimensity 8450 SoC. Only a 6-month window between generations doesn’t leave Oppo much time to make big changes. So they’ll stick to the old design and mostly the same specs this time. Keep watching the news for updates.
