After many leaks and rumors, the Chinese manufacturer has finally announced its new A-Series mid-ranger, the OPPO A97 5G in China. The handset comes furnished with a Mediatek platform, a better refresh rate, and a massive battery. We’ll take a brief look at how it fares against the other 5G midrange offerings.

The new 5G successor of the OPPO A96 offers a premium in-hand feel thanks to its 7.99mm slim profile, 188g weight, and flat rims. A side-mounted thumbprint sensor takes the right edge while the bottom houses a 3.5mm jack and Type-C port. There’s also a dual-SIM tray and volume keys on the left.

Users can have an immersive experience on the A97 5G’s 6.65’’ FHD+ IPS LDC 90 Hz panel with a waterdrop notch emerging from the top and a relatively thicker chin.

To acquire its 5G reception capability, The OPPO A97 deploys a MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC. 12GB (+7GB) of virtually expandable RAM and 256GB of onboard storage round off the hardware.

Flipping to the back, a dual disk camera module sits upon a glossy protrusion. A 48MP shooter handles primary photography with aid of a 2MP depth sensor, while the selfies are captured with an 8MP shooter. A hefty 5,000 mAh battery and 33W Flash charging power the latest 5G Oppo mobile. Moreover, the handset runs Android 12-based ColorOS 12 and features a stereo speaker setup.

Although the rumors suggested a Cherry Blossom color, the handset is currently offered in Deep Sea Blue and Quiet Night Black shades. The all-new OPPO A97 5G starts at CNY 1,999, roughly translating to ~Rs. 60,000. There is no information on whether the device will also receive a global release.
