In the fall of 2020, Oppo launched the entry-level A53. It featured a low-end chip and a high refresh rate. the brand ended up rebranding it several times for different markets despite having a newer variant in the form of Oppo A54. And over a year later, the Chinese phone-maker has once again reintroduced the A53 as Oppo A11s.
Note that the Oppo A11s is not a refreshed or tweaked A53, but the same phone down to the two-year-old version of Android. Let’s review what it has to offer.
For starters, the chipset at the phone’s heart is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 that also came out in 2020. The 1.8GHz clock speed and the Adreno 610 GPU inside will show their age soon if performance is a concern. A 5000 mAh battery powers this chip. Which in turn quick-charges at 18W. But the preloaded OS is Android10 x ColorOS 7.2 is already two generations behind — albeit, upgradable to Android 11.
Nothing has changed on the design front either. Oppo's new A11s model features a curved, flat body weighing 188g and 8.4mm in depth. The subtle textured finish on the back comes in white and graphite shades. Next to the compact camera housing, we find a reliable instant fingerprint scanner.
The rear camera system is a cluster of 13MP wide-angle, 2MP portrait, and 2MP macro lenses. Turn the phone over to reveal its 8MP front camera, embedded inside an O-hole cutout in the corner. Oppo A11s has a 6.5” IPS LCD, which peaks at an underwhelming 720P resolution. But the refresh rate can be bumped up to 90Hz.
Oppo A11s comes in 4GB+64GB and 8GB+128GB storage variants. Currently, it has only been re-released in China, starting from CNY 999 (~ Rs. 27,900.)
