Nothing has finally confirmed what processor the Phone (3) will be using this time, and it’s not what you think. According to their latest tweet on X, this device will carry a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. There’s no denying this is a high-end chip, but it doesn’t quite reach the flagship status. That crown still belongs to the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Over the course of the past few weeks, we’ve heard several times that the Nothing Phone (3) will be the company’s first true flagship device. Even Carl Pei verified the rumors in one of his YouTube videos. Since no one specifically mentioned the name of the chip, the fans expected a Snapdragon 8 Elite on this device.
It seems the Nothing Phone (3) is still a few inches off the true flagship status. The SD 8s Gen 4 is a weaker iteration of its 8 Elite counterpart. But it’s still the second most powerful mobile chip Qualcomm has in its portfolio, so it will slay your favorite games at high FPS and crush those heavy tasks.
Carl Pei revealed that the Nothing latest model phone’s price will be close to £800 in the UK, which translates to roughly $1080 and €945. These prices are close to the Galaxy S25 Plus’ original cost when it was released in January. And this one fits a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip inside.
With an SoC that is not as powerful, the Nothing Phone (3) will have a tough time competing with Samsung’s true flagship device, which has an 8 Elite chipset on board. There are several downgrades the 8s Gen 4 chip has over the original chip.
This chip has a lower clock speed of 3.2GHz, and it lacks the new Oryon CPU cores for faster processing. Three of its cores have a frequency of 3GHz, and the remaining four are split into 2.8GHz and 2GHz E-cores. In plain numbers, though, it’s still faster than last year’s SD 8 Gen 3 chip.
This newer architecture allows for more CPU, graphics, and AI performance, but there are still some features missing on the 8s Gen 4. It can’t handle 8K or 4K 120FPS video recording, and there’s no mmWave support for 5G networks. Nothing Phone (3) will be unveiled on 1st July, and the rest of its details will follow soon after. Stay tuned if you don’t want to miss anything.
