We’ve been hearing rumors of a smaller Face ID cutout on the Apple iPhone 18 Pro series for months. These claims do have substance, as earlier today, we came across a few CAD renders that had a minuscule Dynamic Island on the front. We are putting the images below for a preview.
These renders were originally posted by a leaker on X. And he claims to have sourced them from a case manufacturer, who may have received the CAD models directly from Apple itself. The Dynamic Island is still there on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
It’s clearly not a punch hole cutout like Androids. But it has obviously shrunk. It seems they have managed to put one of the Face ID sensors behind the screen. So the cutout takes up less space on the screen. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max didn’t lose their identities, though.
That particular iPhone feel hasn’t really diminished with the small Dynamic Island. There is a catch with these renders. We hope the images are not distorted, but it seems that the pill cutout may have become a bit taller. It’s not as wide anymore, but it looks thicker. They already went through the whole design overhaul phase with the iPhone 17 series, so it’s possible that the iPhone 18 Pro sticks to the same look on the back. The CAD renders confirm this as well. The internals are going to be modified, like the variable aperture camera.
The main unit on the iPhone 18 Pro has been in headlines, as many leakers believe it’s the first time Apple is trying to put 48MP variable aperture sensor on the handset. It’s only for the main camera, though. There’s obviously a new chip to handle the camera postprocessing.
There’s possibly an Apple A20 processor and Apple C2 modem on the way. We might even have a dedicated wireless N1 chip here. This is being used for faster Airdrop speeds.
