Huawei P Smart S Leaked in Press Renders; A Renamed Huawei Y8p Global

The sequel to last year's Huawei P Smart, dubbed Huawei P Smart S, had previously been found on Geekbench's database, along with its key specifications — based on which it has been speculated to be a rehashed Huawei Y8p Global Edition. In a new development, the popular phone leaker Evan Blass has published the press renders for the upcoming release — which reveal a rebranded Huawei Y8p.

The press renders show an iridescent, polished rear-facing panel, that comes in Breathing Crystal, Midnight Black, and a new Emerald Green. The former two are rather minimalistic and clean, but the Emerald Green embeds a gleaming light pattern. Huawei has chamfered the edges and rounded the corners, which makes for a design that's familiar and easy on the eyes.

Around the front, surrounded by thinly trimmed bezels and a dew-drop notch, is (if it indeed is a rehash) a 6.3" OLED panel that hides a fingerprint scanner underneath. It has a high 20:9 aspect ratio and produces an FHD+ resolution.

A triple camera, housed inside a vertical bump, can also be seen in the renders. The primary of these cameras is a 48MP main camera that works in tandem with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The main camera has a big f/1.8 aperture, and the ultrawide module can capture shots in a 120-degree range.

According to the Geekbench listing touched on above, (as well as the press renders which show the phone to be a rebranded Y8p), the upcoming Huawei P Smart S is powered by a Kirin 710 processor and the Android-10-based EMUI 10. Up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage round off the chipset. The battery has a 4,000 mAh capacity, and the standard 5V/2A charging support.

A definitive launch date or pricing details have yet to present themselves, but given that the press renders have been leaked, an official release should be just around the corner.
